Baby Got Back…

Posted by January Harshe on January 12, 2008

Yep, that’s right, I have too much junk in this trunk! That is why I’m doing this blog, right?! I’m never gonna lose some of this booty if I don’t move it! I know this. So, today I went on a 2.2 mile walk with all three kids. I’d like to report that it was uplifting and wonderful, but let’s be real people. Walking with 3 kids that are 4 years old and under is crazy. The 70 pounds I pushed in the jogger ensured I got a workout! Carrying the baby in the sling made me thankful that that 12 pounds wasn’t a part of me!

The best part wasn’t the kids fighting or Tatum trying to talk to me over the busy traffic, but I wore the wrong shoes. What was I thinking when I put on a brand new pair of Sketchers? Are they walking shoes? NO! I have great walking shoes. I was thinking about them fondly as my toes were going numb walking home today. Hey, the Sketchers matched my outfit. Isn’t that important when you are exercising trying to lose weight? So smart, I am!

You know what, I would love a great gym membership with a great child care. I would love a second car to get to said gym. That is not my circumstance at the moment. So, instead of sitting here feeling sorry for myself, I’m going to be grateful I have a double jogger and a sling and the use of my legs. I’m going to get exercise how I can right now. Sure, it will take me an hour to get out the door. Everyone has to be dressed (I think the neighbors might have an issue with naked toddlers in a jogger), we have to have snacks for the kids because riding in a jogger takes up a lot of energy, the baby has to be fed before we leave, water bottles for everyone made, oh I have to be dressed as well, keys, phone, blankets if it’s cold, etc. That’s OK though, it’s worth it, right? Please somebody tell me it’s worth it! If I’m going to tell others there is no excuse not to get exercise, then I have to throw all my excuses out. Bummer.

I am happy to be able to exercise. I am grateful I can walk. I am happy to be able to get out with my kids. Exercising lifts my mood, helps my spirit and helps my body. That is something to appreciate. Also, when I exercise I want to eat better, because darnit, I don’t want to undo the 2 hours it took me to get 45 minutes of exercise! If I invest that much time to work off calories and heal my body, I want to keep all the benefits! Tomorrow is Saturday, so I’m making the hubby go with me. Two days in a row would be great! I’m feeling healed from the birth, so I’m up for it!

So, if I can do this, then don’t even try to tell me your lame excuse! What are you doing for exercise right now?

I think it is funny that you love to eat healthy and have a hard time exercising, and I love to exercise and love to eat junk. What I do in a typical week: Mon-run,weights; Wed-run, pilates; Fri-sports training class; Sat- long run (12 miles last Sat- my furthest ever-training for a half marathon). What I ate over the weekend- I’ll spare you the details but lets just say I’m sure I easily undid all the exercise earlier in the week. I think walking is great and I can tell you that if I don’t exercise, everything is much harder. I am able to cope with all the little things life throws at me (and some big stuff) better when I am keeping up on my exercise routine. You are doing great- getting going is the hardest part- and I know what you mean about getting out the door with 3 children. Keep it up, it gets easier.

    Julie,

So, if we could combine your exercise with my eating, then we’d be good. Actually I like to eat crap too, I just don’t (most of the time). You’re training for a half marathon? That’s great! When is it? Brandon’s starting to train for one as well (I think a full one). Getting out the door with 3 kids is a riot. I’m visiting Staci right now, so you should see us getting places with 6 kids ages 4 and under! Keep up the awesome exercise.
